Passengers on a shore excursion from Ponant’s L’Austral were rescued after their local vessel started to sink.

The 23 cruise passengers and three crew members were on Greenland’s Illulissat Icefjord when they were rescued by local boats and other inflatable vessels from the L’Austral.

It is believed the locally hired boat struck something in the water or was hit by something prior to sinking.

According to the Arctic Journal, the acting police commissioner in Ilulissat Sebastian Bech said that there were no injuries and everyone is back on the cruise ship.

Authorities in Greenland are investigating the cause of the accident.
